The Challenge
Our client implemented a Web Content Management solution to support their intranet web property. They experienced several issues utilizing FatWire’s Content Server as their WCM solution and had failed implementation for their Internet web property. Following these issues they decided the platform would not be effective in supporting their Enterprise Content Management needs. Ironworks was selected to identify and implement a solution to meet their business goals.
The Solution
Once Ironworks was engaged on this project, we determined our client would realize more value from approaching the project as a Feasibility analysis for an Enterprise Content Management solution rather than a Web Content Management solution. This would support all web properties and position the organization for future growth. The following highlights of the engagement outline the solution provided by Ironworks:
Prepared customized questionnaires to drive requirements elicitation from constituents
Conducted interviews with several persons representing 14 cross functional groups to capture their requirements and priorities for an ECM project.
Developed a detailed project plan which identified the major components for a successful ECM implementation which is iterative for all the client’s web properties. (The plan addressed deliverables such as resource plans, timelines and level of effort, risk mitigation, training plans, requirements management plan, communication plans and testing plans)
Collected and matrixed initial business, functional, and technical requirements for all cross functional groups.
Presented Feasibility presentation for project sponsors on the readiness of the organization and recommendations for moving forward into product selection.
The Results
Ironworks was able to save our client valuable resource time by focusing their efforts on a more robust, long-term solution. The creation of a detailed project plan provided a template for future on-boarding of other departments saving additional time and resources. Financially, our client avoided making the costly mistake of integrating software that wouldn’t support their long-tern business objectives and, because our recommendation supports the entire company, the IT department did not have to absorb all of the costs alone.
